The Legal Opinions Committee meets periodically during the year and also corresponds among a distribution list of committee members. The purposes of the committee include:

• Discussions of recent developments and topics of interest to attorneys dealing with legal opinions. Topics have included professional standards, general opinion practices, and opinions on specialized matters such as usury and investment property collateral.

• Work on various projects believed to be of interest to attorneys dealing with legal opinions. The committee issued a comprehensive report in 1992, called “Report of the Legal Opinions Committee Regarding Legal Opinions in Business Transactions.” This report has been supplemented on occasion, and the Committee is currently working on some further updates.

All interested Texas attorneys with experience in issuing and receiving legal opinion letters are encouraged and invited to join this committee.
